We are all dwellers on the threshold

In the free online course Big History Project we can follow the history of the universe until now.

Our earth is really a wonder.

It's unique lifeforms will probably not occur on any other planet.

Man's  progress is caused by the worldwide connections that started about 500 years ago. We have learned from each other.

And now we are even more connected, cultures and and people from every nations are mixed together in the  big cities, for instance in Stockholm.
And then we have big opportunistic to learn from each other. Mindfulness has come to the west to stay and will probably change it a bit. Delicious and tasty food from every corner of the world is now probably more popular than the traditional Swedish "smörgåsbord".

You can now choose to eat vegetarian food in every school canteen. When I was young this was impossible.
Other things have happened too; women rights, refugees, colored people even in small cities, and then reactions to that.
Things are changing quite fast, and when they do many of us get scared and look back to the "good old days".

But things have to change quite fast. As the Big History Project shows, life on Earth is standing on at threshold.
Perhaps as serious as for 65 billion years ago when the dinosaurs disappeared.

We are living in a time of mass extinction of big animals; orangutans, elephants, tigers and other big animals are threatened but also plants, insects and so on that we need for producing food and medicine.  Here is one of the new, non profit organisations, which cares about this.

At the end of the course the creators speculate about the future.
What will happen on the other side of the threshold?

Right now nobody knows, but for the sake of our children and their children, let's hold on for a while - we are animals too. Let us learn from the past, but we can never go back to it. Let us not be afraid of the future. Change it inevitable - it has always been. Van Morisson knows this, a man who also saw the advantages if you unite different cultures:
